# UBO KYC - Tier 1
> Verifying an owner's identity and setting up security - every screen, explained.
# UBO KYC — Tier 1
Tier 1 verifies the people behind the business. Every declared owner does the identity check; the controlling owner also sets up a passkey and a recovery method, which is what activates the wallet.

## 1. Start from your dashboard
Your owner dashboard lists **Verify your identity** — *"Passport, driver's licence or national ID. About 5 minutes."* — with a **Verify Identity** button. Tap it.
The verification screen is headed **"Verify identity"** / *"Unlock currency transactions"*, with three steps across the top: **Profile**, **Address**, **Identity**.
## 2. Profile — tell us about yourself
**"Tell us about yourself"** — *"As it appears on your government-issued ID."*

The date field is annotated *"(DD/MM/YYYY) As it appears on your government ID"*.
Names and dates of birth must match your ID exactly. A shortened first name or a transposed date is the most common reason a check fails, and it means redoing the identity step.
Tap **Continue**.
## 3. Address — where you live
**"Where do you live?"** — *"As it appears on your proof of address; dated within the last 3 months"*.
* **Country of residence**
* **State/Province/Region**
* **City/Town/Locality**
* **Postal code / ZIP code / Postcode**
* **Address**
Copy the address off a recent bank statement or utility bill rather than from memory — it has to match a document dated within the last three months.
Tap **Continue**.
## 4. Identity — selfie and ID
**"Let's verify your identity"**, checking your **Selfie** and a **Government issued ID**.
Capture happens in a verification tool embedded in the screen. It walks you through photographing your ID and taking a live selfie, then matches one against the other.
Good lighting, no hat, no sunglasses, and hold the ID flat with no glare. A first-attempt mismatch is common and doesn't count against you.
That's the whole identity check. If you're an owner but not the controlling owner, you're done here.
## 5. Controlling owner only — create your passkey
The controlling owner continues into **"Set up your security"**, a two-step section: **Passkey**, then **Recovery**.
**"Create your passkey"** — *"Your passkey lives on this device and signs every wallet action. It works with Face ID, Touch ID, or your laptop's fingerprint reader."*
A card shows the device you're on — for example **This Mac**, *"Use this device biometrics to sign in"* — badged **"Takes less than 30 seconds"**. Tap **Create Passkey**.
This passkey signs every wallet action, not just sign-in. Create it on a device you'll keep and control — not a shared or temporary machine.
## 6. Controlling owner only — set up recovery
**"Where should we reach you if you lose this device?"** — *"In case you lose access to your primary email or passkey, you'll use this to recover your account."*
By default it asks for a **Recovery email**, with *"We'll send a one-time verification code to confirm"*.
A **Use phone number instead** toggle switches it to a **Recovery phone number** with a country code selector, and the helper text changes to *"We'll text you a one-time code by SMS."*
Tap **Send code** and enter the code to confirm.
Use a personal address or number you control, not a shared company inbox. This is how you get back in if the device holding the passkey is lost.
## 7. The wallet goes live
With the controlling owner verified and recovery in place, the wallet activates. The home screen confirms **"Your crypto wallet is live"** — *"Send, receive and swap across major networks."*
You'll see your wallet card with **Total balance**, per-asset rows for **USD₮**, **BTC** and **XAU₮**, and a **Receive / Send / Swap / Buy** panel. The sidebar now carries the full product navigation, including **Teams** — see [Teams](/Onboarding/corporate/teams).
A prompt sits alongside: **"Unlock currency-enabled transactions"** — *"Convert from EUR, GBP, NGN and more to crypto and back, then cash out to a local bank account."* — with **Get Started** and **Not Now**. That's [Tier 2](/Onboarding/corporate/ubo-kyc-tier2), and it can wait until you're ready.
